I am a web designer with a passion for coding and design. I love trying out new things with JavaScript, drawing in Illustrator (or more recently, Procreate) and doing photo manipulations in Photoshop. As a former teacher, I enjoy teaching so I tutor as a side job. You can also find me playing Overwatch, Battlefield or Monster Hunter.
My journey in web design and development started at age 12, when I was playing around with Microsoft FrontPage. I spent countless hours making webpages for various things. I was amazed how simple lines of code could dramatically change the appearance of a page. But I never thought this could be a career, so I followed another passion and pursued a teaching career instead.
Still, my interest in web design never died. I learned HTML and CSS. I also learned design fundamentals (e.g. typography, colour and layout) to make everything perfect. With these skills, I designed cards, stickers and other stationery to sell in online stores. I also combined my teaching background to create worksheets and learning materials to share with other teachers.
In 2016, I enrolled in BCIT’s Technical Web Designer program to study web design and development. I beefed up my knowledge of HTML and CSS, and learned JavaScript and PHP. I discovered custom WordPress theming and the importance of good UX. The program opened up a world of possibilities.
Since then, I have furthered my skills in design and development, as well as marketing. I made business cards, posters and brochures. I created landing pages and customized WordPress themes. I wrote copy for websites and marketing material. I drew icons and diagrams. I made fillable PDF forms and templates. I even designed pitch decks and PowerPoint slides for courses.
The best part is, this is only the beginning! There's so much more to learn and I look forward to it.
